During my college days, I read about the nature of saints, sages, and fakirs. After completing my education and becoming a professor, I began teaching about them. Later, I came into contact with Hazrat Harprasad Mishra 'Uwaisi' and saw firsthand what a Sufi fakir is truly like. In appearance, they are just like you and me; they eat and drink, sleep and wake, bathe and wash—performing all the routine activities of a human being. Yet, their bond is with the Divine.
They heed the words of the Supreme. They dwell in constant remembrance of Him. They speak only of Him. God speaks through their lips; the supreme light radiates from their eyes. Sitting in their presence fills the heart with peace. I have experienced all of this. I have witnessed the spark of spirituality in my Peer. Truth resides in their eyes; substance in their words; meaning in their smile; blessings in their speech; reassurance in their utterances. If they bid you sit beside them, consider your task accomplished; if their gaze falls upon you, you are truly blessed. I have seen this happen spontaneously with my own eyes.
